A posta address enables mail o reach its destinaion. Similarly, a
URL allows youir broswer to find a specific webpage or file across the
intenet. Like a house address the URL must be unique and point to only place
HTTP :stands for Hyper Text Transfer Protocol. This is the"set of rules"
(think of it as the language)your browser and the computer will
communicate in so they can understand each other when sending data
between and self.
WWW: stands for world wide web.This is inherited from the early days of the
internet when more than one network of linked computerrs was available
This type browsers now add this prefix by default.
Domain Name: This is an unique name that is registered to one owner and points
to the root directory on a websits's host computer.Domain names were
devised to make it easier for people to remember how to find a website rahter than
use the numerical alternative(eg IP address 123.45.67.890) you have
to pay to secure (register) a name and it must's already be in use.
Extension:.com is a global company, it gives useful informaton about the website's
owner. .com means a global or US company. .co.uk means a company in the united Kingdom.
Other types include .org for a charity, gov for government and so on
However, just because it says .co.uk on the end, it doesn't mean the
website really is a company in the UK. There is no check on domain name types.
Anyone can choose any extension whey they register a domain name
Home Page: Home Page index.html is the default file name a browser
looks for when you type in the domain name, eg
ithelpinghandgroup.blogspot.com on its own.It usually contains the home page of the
website.
Path: just like you organize your files in folders on your computer,
websites do the same for their webpage files. This is an example
of a path to a specific webpage within the site.
Host: store (a website or other data) on a server or other computer so that it can be accessed over the Internet.
